White Waterlily

Nymphaea odorata (Fragrant White Waterlily or Beaver Root) is one of the most iconic and widespread native waterlilies in North America. Floating on calm waters with large, fragrant white blooms and round green leaves tinged purple underneath, this aquatic perennial adds beauty and structure to ponds, lakes, and slow streams. Its flowers open in the early morning and close by midday, releasing a sweet scent that attracts birds and other wildlife. With floating leaves and spongy stems that provide food and shelter for waterfowl and mammals, this lily is both ornamental and ecologically valuable.
